Taylor stood with Ben next to his white Bugatti Centodieci and her Hello Kitty roller bag. They stared at each other, both seemingly unsure what to say, Ben’s plane in the hangar behind them.

“Not exactly a matching pair,” Ben said.

“Are you talking about us?”

Ben laughed. “I was talking about the car and the…thing you call luggage.” He looked down at the Hello Kitty bag and said, “All that money spent on shopping and no luggage?”

Taylor scoffed. “Nobody has fun shopping for luggage. We were there for the experience. Not the things.”

“Oh, so you’ll be okay if Zoey returns them rather than ships them to you?”

Taylor smiled, sheepishly. “She already sent them, so sorry. I would, but when you add up the shipping back and forth, it’s not worth returning.”

“Sure,” Ben said, laughing. “When can I see you again? Are you free next weekend?”

Taylor looked up at Ben, studying his face. “Why do you still want to see me?”

Ben frowned. “Why wouldn’t I?”

“Because we’re so different and half a country away. And you have women hitting on you everywhere you go.”

Ben said, “The world is pretty small when you have your own jet.”

Taylor’s eyebrows shot up. “Are you buying me a jet?”

Ben chuckled. “I think we can share one. You have mine at your disposal any time you want to visit.”

Taylor stared down at the ground. “We’re great together when it’s just us, but our worlds are different. Your mother hates me. I just don’t fit with the other people around you or with your work life, for that matter.”

Ben nodded, thoughtfully. “Those are valid points. So, next weekend?”

She studied his face. “You don’t care about my concerns?”

He shrugged. “We’ll figure it out. Come back. That was only my second emergency board meeting in seven years. We’ll have more time together.”

“I can’t. I have Kait’s bachelorette party. Girls’ time in Nashville. They can all tell me how much I need to fix my life. I might have to drink heavily.”

Ben raised an eyebrow.

“You’re right. I was gonna do that anyway,” Taylor said with a smile.

“How are you getting to Nashville?”

“Flying.”

“Whose plane?” Ben asked.

“Southwest’s?”

“Would you rather take mine?”

Taylor cocked her head, thinking. “Well, I can’t fly it, but Jenn probably can.”

Ben laughed. “I’ll provide the pilot. But I think you’re right.” He thought for a minute. “Why leave at all?”

“What do you mean?”

“Stay the week.”

Too serious. “I can’t stay. I have to get back. They need me at Sutton,” Taylor said, holding in a laugh.

“Do they, though?” Ben asked.

“You think they don’t? Shelly would never be able to handle the biz without me. I’m her rock. Her support system.”

“I reluctantly accept your rejection.”

“So, what next then?” Taylor asked.

“I guess it’s up to you.”
